Our Evaluation Framework
1. Real Buyer Data
We analyze what actual preppers are buying and why. This includes Reddit community discussions, review aggregation sites, and e-commerce data. If something consistently appears in "what I bought" posts, it gets attention.
2. Community Feedback
Reddit communities like r/prepping, r/collapse, r/EDC, and r/bugout are goldmines of real-world experience. We track what works, what breaks, and what people wish they had bought instead.
3. Spec Analysis
We dig into the numbers. Water filters - what micron rating, flow rate, and capacity? Generators - wattage, fuel consumption, runtime? Solar - wattage, efficiency, degradation? We compare specs objectively.
4. Value Assessment
Price is only one factor. We evaluate cost per use, durability, and whether a higher price actually delivers better performance. A $200 item that lasts 10 years beats a $50 item that needs replacing every year.
5. Use Case Fit
Not every product is right for every situation. A portable water filter is perfect for bug-out bags but useless for long-term storage. We match recommendations to specific use cases and scenarios.
What We Look For

- Available and in stock (not sold out or discontinued)
- Honest reviews from verified purchasers
- Reasonable price for the quality
- Replacement parts and customer support available
- Not overhyped by marketing
What We Avoid
- Products with mostly fake reviews
- Overpriced "tactical" gear that's just rebranded cheap products
- Single-use items that create dependencies
- Products that are frequently out of stock
- Marketing claims without real-world evidence
